Realy Sad Earth Day Fact

I read yesterday a really sad fact, that makes me rethink the entire ethanol movement.
Greed and speculation is creating farmers all over the world to stop growing the crops that have historically fed the planet, like rice and wheat. Yet instead they are turning the fields that feeds the people of our world into fields that will fill our tanks.
The really sad part of this tidbit of information...
The UK just ruled that half of all corn that comes into the country or is grown their must be sold to turn into ethanol! Do you realize what this means?
If there is a shortage of corn at some point there will people who go hungry while ethanol will still be made.

Now the worst part...
The amount of corn used to fill a tank on big US SUV, is more than the amount of corn that will feed a human being for one year.

Globilization, is the politics of poverty and poverty on a global scale. With the Industrialization of India, and China they are in the next 10 years going to be the biggest consumers of energy, no longer the United States. The pictures of starving children are not going be children from Africa any longer, they are going to be from everywhere.

We need to rethink these issues and we need to definately not put all of our eggs in one basket with one particular fuel since clearly ethanol has it's own set of issues

Go to Oilcrash.com and have a look around. There is much there that is energy-related, many good essays and statistics on energy, plus a good essay on ethanol. One Caveat, the site has a leftist agenda and tack, but still raises interesting questions based on the research. I just disagree with their conclusions. I still find it informative. YMMV

Dear Critter,

I am finding that over the last decade the lines of left and right have become verrrrry blurred.
What was once right, is now left and what was once left is now right
I try to read from as many sites as I can because I believe that somewhere in between all of the spin has to be some truth.
Another left leaning sight that is very informative is The Information Clearing House. The articles are long and extrapolated but very informative.
Thanks for the referal I'll check it out.

You make a very astute observation Miss Wymzie. We have never before had access to so much information, and as you say it has been primarily in the last 10 years. The unbelievable thing is that the Internet is still in it's infancy, but it has changed so much of what we think and believe. This is one reason why we should reject unreasonable attempts to control this priceless flow. Although I tack more to the right than the left politically, I can't very well refute anybody effectively if I don't expose myself to the underpinnings of their philosophy. Echoing the mantras of radio hosts doesn't make you much more than a clever parrot. It's not that much more effort to do your own homework. The info is there for you. People will learn to hate you for it, but you'll be respected.

We must fight every effort we can to clamp down the internet.
Viacom is suing Google for Billions for YouTube postings.

These lawsuits will bring about more controls, and as the Patriot act's tentacles spread and spider through our files the our personal liberties are being lost daily.

Two time this last week I have been told that I am perceived as a liberal. I find that so hysterical. I am so conservative, in my thinking. If I could align myself with any politcal figure that would be representative of my beliefs if would be hands down Thomas Jefferson.
I believe in absolute personal freedom to do anything we please as long as it does not harm anyone else, nor cost anyone else not willing to support the behavior anything. I believe the is to be small and a true representation of the people, to protect it citizens and to hold each other accountable for upholding our liberty.
Period.
Our elected officals used to have jobs and went back to their constituents and lived among them when they were not in session. Now they go on vacation when they're not in session. .
