Honey Day Was Huge Success!

Out of 3 honey boxes with 9 honey frames each (not all had honey) I was able to harvest 5 gallons of honey from the one established hive!

This great news, as last year I only got about a gallon from the same hive.

I didn't rob the new colony as I am letting them get established and let the Queen lay lots of worker brood to collect honey for the hive.

Remember every third bite that you eat comes from a Bee.

If you can and are interested in beekeeping please go buy the equipment and establish a hive.
If you care about your fellow man and yourself and your ability to continue to eat but don't want to personally keep bees; then sponsor a beekeeper.

Two Years ago 50% of the Honey Bee's Worldwide Dissapeared. Last year they are estimating about a 30% loss.

Each and every one of us has to do something to find a way to save the Bees, so please support your local beekeeper.

You can even buy a hive and give it to a beekeeper, they will take care of the bees and work them, and then they will give you 1/2 of the honey from it as an incentive to help.

Albert Einstein said that if the Bees ever dissapeared, mankind would only have approximately 5 years left.

Do your part!
Don't buy hybrid flowers and vegetables.
Don't use pesticides.
Plant lots of Sunflowers and open pollinated vegetables and fruits and let the clover spread through your lawn!
All of this will feed the bee's

Five gallons of honey! Miss Wymzie I know you've alluded to the fact that you're a wine drinker, are you gonna brew up some mead with all that honey? If you do be careful of the "buzz."

Swampy,
Himself and Himself's Herself are brewers and two years ago after my last good harvest I handed over 15lbs of honey and they provided the rest of the ingredients including the know how and the labor ( I watched and added my opinions).
After it fermented we attended the Shore's Red Neck Event of the Year...Punkin Chunkin. I seated myself on the front lines of the action and proceeded to drink three of the large plastic dixie cups of the this delectable concoction. When the festivities where over, I stood up to walk to the car, and didn't think I would make it. I have never ever never, been soooo intoxicated in my life!
While I like wine, I am allergic to sulfite's and it gives me a terrible headache so I rarely if ever drink it. Meade however, doesn't have the sulfite's, and I felt just fine; until the next day which wasn't nearly so pleasant.

I served it at a gathering a couple of weeks later and poured myself a glass, and couldn't drink it.

I had my day in the sun with the marvelous Meade once, but I don't think I will be able to do so again.
Although my be buddy Karole is begging me to contribute some of my honey to add to hers to make a batch from a different recipe.
I'm going to compare her recipe to the one used by Himself, and see how it differs. If it is significantly different, I may try it again.
I'll let you know.

Hey, I don't know if this of any interest but...right near where I take my kids to daycare there was an old, old man who grew veggies, ect..and had bees. Now he has passed away over a year ago, but his wife still has the bee house (not sure what you call it) sitting right at the edge of her woods. Can you use it? If so I will askher for it.
