The Farmer Girl Day That Almost Didn't Happen..
Kathy was scheduled to host and she was freakin out. Karol is hosting a party tomorrow night and said she had too much to do. Herself wanted to partake and was disappointed that every wussed out. So she invited me to a lovely lunch on her back deck.
Afterward, I arrive home to find Kathy in my driveway, with deviled eggs and she said let's go help Karol. So we jumped in her truck and went to the farm. The Hussy wasn't even there!
So I called her and she was on her way to Lowe's to pick up the essentials for upside down tomato's.
I chastised her that engaging in such activities would not prepare her home for all of the ladies who are not Farmer Girls that would be coming on Friday night. She whined a little but came right home.
Kathy emptied the bathroom, I started with the Kitchen then we both decided that the living room need rearranging!
Karole freaked but agreed that it would be wonderful. We edited big time, hurt her feelings by making fun of her in the process. We love her, but she had some outdated stuff that we had to poke her about.
We completely flipped her living room around, vacuumed the cobwebs, dusted and de-cluttered; it was a beautiful thing.
The we went back to the kitchen and did the same thing.
All in all it was such a productive day...so tomorrow she will only have to have the grass cut and do some final straightening Oh, and get the baby chickens outside.... Remember we're Farmer Girls, so we do chickens; fancy ones, but baby chicks stay in the house until they are old enough to be outside...in a box of course. but inside nonetheless.
So the party tomorrow night is sure to be a blast and the house will look fabulous.
Too bad, I won't even be able to be there.
Have fun Girls!

I just planted Big Boy tomatoes in a bucket upside down, for the fun of it. Are there essentials other than the bucket and the plant? I've been hearing plenty about it so I thought I'd try it with one of my plants. All I did was cut the center out of the bottom of a 5gallon bucket, put coffee filters over the hole while I filled it with garden dirt turned it upsided down and put the plant in and hung it up. Time will tell if this works. Is there something else I should have done?
Donna
Donna,
I think as long as you ad some real good soil to the mix and some manure and keep it good and watered you will be good.
I have read about some people who keep the lids on the buckets to keep the moisture in and when it's going to rain take them off, and I've seen them without the tops, so that you can easily add the water.
I don't know which will work better. This is something I will probably work on to see which works best. Happy Upside Down Tomato Growing!
Trust me my garden soil has plenty of manure LOL. Last year I tilled in 4 inches of chicken manure and this year we put 4 inches of horse manure. We spread our manure in January so it has time to leach in and rot on top of the ground before tilling, otherwise the horse manure would give us a garden full of weeds. Anywayyyyy,
I filled the bucket with garden dirt and a couple of inches of mulch on top. I put the lid on because the lid had a plug to insert a pour spout so we just took it out and left that part open for watering. I'm really starting to rethink this whole lid on idea. It seems to me the heat of the sun, with all that plastic there would be to much moisture and the roots might rot. The more I think about it the more I think I'll take that lid off tomorrow and let it get some air.
I told Joe I like your blog because of the garden chit chat. I wish more folks would chime in with their ideas.
I think your right about the rotting roots, it could stay toooo damp.
What about poking holes in the top with a nail, kinda like a bug house?
I'm glad you like the blog.
I enjoy writing about other things than politics, although I am a politico junkie.
Himself's Herself told me a couple of years ago that if anyone needed to have a reality show about them it would be us. We always seem to be into something and the fun just never ends.
High Drama resides here on Market Street, but I couldn't imagine it any other way!
