Is it just me, or have you noticed it too?
Every time I turn on the Discovery Channel, the Learning Channel or the History Channel, there is yet another show being promoted about the end of the world?
Last weekends lineup was enough to scare anyone to death. There were shows about 2012 and the end of the Aztec calendar.
There was a show about Nostradamus, and his prophesy about 2012.
Then there were the ‘Bible Code’ guys who believe that the past present and future are hidden in some sort of mathematical code within the letters of the words in the text.
Last but not least there was the show about a giant asteroid plowing into the earth, they have an exact one in mind, named ‘Wormwood’ (isn’t that a word in the Bible too?) that is set to make a pass by the Earth in ….2012!
Ooh, and I almost forgot!
The biggest most active Volcano on the planet that just happens to be called Yellowstone National Park has experienced over 500 earthquakes since December 26th 2008. It is estimated to go off every 65,000,000 years and that should be around….2012!
I am starting to wonder about all of the media around many of the things that we find important.
Are they trying to scare us to death?
It reminds of the movie ‘Wag the Dog’.
Keep the public focused on one thing while ‘We’ do another.
So what do you think?
Is this coincedence?
Is this misinformation, meant to scare us?
Or do you think it’s real?
I’m going to take the position, that there are a lot of valid points brought forth in many of these therories, but, I am very suspicious as to why there is so much attention brought to it now?
Remember, Y2K? Nothing ever happened with that, and look how many millions of dollars changed hands because of the fear instilled in the unknown.

There will always be theories about the end of the world. I am 53 years old and when I was a boy, my grandfather (who was a Mennonite preacher) was always prognosticating and witnessing to everyone he met that "The End is Near". Very interesting thoughts posted on your part, though. I see Albero uses some of your stuff on his blog. Other than that, you seem like a good person.
Thanks for reading.
I am very interested in these things. I too come from a very devout Christian background and have been told throughout my life that very bad things would happen near the end of days. But the media seems to have really picked up on these things lately, instead of just the late night preachers, so I thought I would put it out there as a question to see what everyone else is thinking about this.
Hey, Wymzie,
I'm a little behind on my reading (!!) I think you're right. Wag the Dog was an eye-opener. I think the purpose was to further create an atmosphere of fear and to distract from what was going on. The end is near for all of us -- even if we live to be 92, like my dad, it comes too soon. We need to make the most of our days. It's good to do today what needs to be done and to plan for the future. We can't be prepared for much of what comes our way, those unexpected bits of life that leave us whirling. But we can be grounded in a faith that keeps us through the storms of life. And if 2012 is the big IT, then, thank you Jesus, that's not the end for us, just the beginning of a new chapter. Thanks for speaking about the topic.
