Mud, Mud, Go Away!

I don't think the carrots, collards, peas or spinach are going to make it.
I think that they drowned.
After days upon days of rain, I can only see mud.
I think I will try again, while it is still cool.
I have never had luck with the early spring stuff, or the fall stuff, and for some reason I thought this year would be different.

Himself, informed me that the tiller is still broken, and I am hoping that he works on it this weekend so we can get the bigger stuff in the ground.

Hopefully, I won't slip and fall in the mud as I go into the bee hives tomorrow!

Steph all of those veggies need a lot of water, especially spinach. It takes a lot of water to germinate those hard little seeds. They'll be fine.

I have mulched my garden over with straw this year and everything is doing great. Straw is so much cleaner than wood chips and far less expensive. I'll just till it under at the end of the season. The straw should benefit some areas where I have a bit more clay than I want.
I just put in a dozen Roma and a dozen Rutger tomato plants in the ground as well as my Bell peppers. Hoping to get squash, eggplant and zucchini in the ground today before the rains come.

I'm considering floating row covers for the tomatos and peppers this summer or maybe just some lightweight gauze to filter the sun. Have you ever done this? Did it workout well?

I used them years ago for lettuce in the summer. They worked really nice.
I used that dark woven stuff you put on the ground to stop weed growth and it provided great shade.

I had tender sweet lettuce and other greens in their baby form all summer because they didn't get bitter in the shade.
